Dress codes that are seen as appropriate for the evening are black tie and white tie. White tie is a dress code that is only worn to ultra formal events or when it is indicated in the invitation. For most evening events black tie is the required attire.

    Wear a black suit or tuxedo, officially these suits are made of wool. The tuxedo should be a two piece black suit. Sometimes midnight blue is also worn. The suit should have a one button placket and the front and back are supposed to be at the same length with silk or satin lapels.
    As the name indicates: wear a matching black tie.
    Optional you can wear a tuxedo vest or cumberbund. The tuxedo vest is currently the most worn but for very formal black tie events a cumberbund might be a better option.
    Wear a white ‘tuxedo’ shirt with a regular collar. A double cuff / manchet and a blind plug is required. The front of the shirt is officially pleated and the collar should be a foldover or winged standing.
    For a black tie tuxedo the trousers should have satin pipings (gallons) with seams on both sides of the trousers.
    Combine your suit with black leather court shoes (pumps). Wear your shoes with long black socks made of silk or fine wool.
    Wearing a watch is seen as inappropriate for a black or white tie dress code.
    Also leave all other accessories at home (except for your wedding ring off course).
    Don't wear clothes that are to tight or to large. It makes you look like you don't have a clue about fashion.
    Don't wear a t-shirt or blouse with large brand names printed on it. It isn't classy and you don't want to look like a show off.
    Don't wear hot sweaters or sweaters with a hood on a party. This is not done.
    Don't overdo your accessories. Avoid to much bling like big golden or silver necklaces, fake diamonds and men bags.
Do make sure you are groomed, nice smelling and trimmed. If you want to make a good impression on the girls this is a must! If you don't look or smell clean, no girls will come to talk to you, despite of your stylish outfit.
    Do put some effort in your hair.
    Do keep your accessories simple. Wear a nice watch, a silver or leather bracelet and a plain leather belt machting with your outfit.
    Do make sure your shoes are clean. Wear your special shoes at the club.
    Do wear a good fitting jeans. Make sure that the trouser legs are not too tight, too wide, too short or too long. This ruins your whole outfit.
    Do wear a shirt, a t-shirt or a simple thin V-neck/Crewneck sweater.
    Do choose breathing, natural fabrics to avoid sweating.
The location of the event also gives you clues about the formality of your attire. If you're going to a party at home a more casual outfit is required than in a fancy restaurant. Never go in your average outfit you wear daily, especially when the event is formal. For the family members organizing the party it's good to see that you have put some effort in your appearance. With family parties it's always better to dress more formal than too casual. When you're wearing a suit or tie while the party seems to be less formal, you can always take of your tie or jacket. For more formal family events wear a suit or tuxedo. Always remember, the darker the suit the more formal you look.
Wear a plain shirt. Make sure the color matches with the suit or tie.
A tie is optional unless there is a dress code that requires one.
Choose leather shoes.
The socks should be dark, long and made of wool. Never wear sport socks.
Wear a belt.
Don't wear to much accessories. Keep it simple with a nice watch or bracelet.
