We all have our problem areas and things about our bodies that we don’t like. Even the slimmest people have bits they don’t particularly like to show off. But do you avoid shopping all together just because you are not the size or shape you want? Well there is no need to hide behind that old baggy tracksuit or oversized shirt any longer. There are so many affordable high street shops that cater for every shape, size and height, it’s just a matter of finding out what suits your frame and how best to wear it.So whether you are a pear, apple or triangle you can look great and hopefully our tips will help you to choose the right shape, cut and design for you.We will cover the main problem areas but if there is an area that we don’t address, you can always do a bit of research or seek advice from an in-store stylist or shopper. Many people think that the best way to hide a larger bust is to completely cover it up. This isn’t always the case, as a plain, one-coloured top can actually draw attention to that area.V-neck tops may seem bizarre to those of you who have always tried to cover up, but in fact, they can take the eye away from the bust and draw it up to your neck line especially if you are wearing a really nice necklace. A scoop neck can also work well, especially if it has detailing around the neck. Any pattern, necklace or detailing around the neck will draw attention upwards instead of to your chest. When it comes to dresses we really have to say a big thanks to Diane von Furstenberg. If it wasn’t for her we wouldn’t have the beloved and figure flattering wrap dress. No matter what your problem areas are, a wrap dress will flatter most figures but especially the larger bust. A wrap will lift & separate your chest and torso and draw notice to your waist. Look for ones that tie at the waist or hip as they will draw the eye downwards and away from your bust.A balcony bra or a halter-neck will give you a great cleavage but whatever type of bikini or swimsuit you choose, just make sure it has hidden cups or support. For tops, blouses and even dresses, try a bat-wing or draped sleeve that tapers in or ends just below the biggest part of your arm. A small pattern rather than a solid colour will also hide a multitude. When it comes to coats and jackets, those in-fashion big sleeves and flared arms are great. It’s best to avoid cardigans and tops with short sleeves.A big waist band or those current high-waisted jeans and trousers are a godsend to those who want to hide their belly. But a flat-fronted, side-fastening trouser is just as good. Avoid pleats that start at your tummy as this will just draw attention to the area. Crop trousers are all the go at the moment but I have noticed that some seem to have a lot of material around the crotch and tummy area. This can make you look bigger than you actually are so try to go for the better tailored option. When it comes to jeans, make sure you don’t wear ones that create the 'muffin top' look. If they are too tight you will get that over-hang and it can make you look bigger than you actually are. The right fit is key when it comes to all clothes but especially for jeans. When it comes to trousers and even jeans, 3/4 pants that tie in or taper at the knee or calf will draw the eye to the bottom half of the leg. A good pair of bootleg, flare or wide-leg cut jeans can look really good too but if you go for loose jeans don’t go too loose on the top. Navy or black skinny jeans can be ok but only if you can find a tunic or long top to cover those problem areas. Don’t think about wearing skinny jeans or trousers with a short top, that’s a no-no if you are conscious about your hips or thighs. Be careful with leggings, only go for control ones if you are going to wear a wrap dress, shirt or tunic dress over them. The objective is to cover your hips and larger thighs without drawing attention to them so an A-lined skirt or dress is perfect. Avoid clingy material like lycra and synthetic silk. Pencil skirts are not a good idea either as they can just look stretched over your hips if that is your widest part.
